I first found Sunflowers after meeting the author on Facebook. We shared an interest in alternative energy and got to talking. He mentioned the book, and from the first paragraph, I was hooked. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but the concept is very plausible, the science and engineering rock-solid, and the characters are developed well through the course of the book.There is an even balance between techno-thriller and political intrigue, along with the real-world consequences of well targeted terrorism. Fun to read, and you're definitely rooting for the hero as the story develops.
I re-read Sunflowers on my trip to Arizona over the holidays. Great action sequences, then good political drama. I think the opening sequence at Hoover is amazing.

Thomas T. Thomas' SUNFLOWERS is the best kind of technothriller -- one that respects the intelligence of its audience. Readers who value action mixed with realistic and fascinating technology and politics will devour this novel. Thomas deftly portrays the massive engineering, technological, and political challenges involved in creating an orbiting network of solar power satellites (the ultimate "green energy" project) using an array of intriguing heroes -- many of them engineers -- and deadly terrorist villains. Like Michael Crichton, Thomas is both a master storyteller and an entertaining educator. SUNFLOWERS kept me on the edge of my seat, while at the same time presenting high-tech ideas and concepts that felt stunningly real and authentic. That's a rare achievement!
